RED RASPBERRIES

Availability:

We have two varieties of red raspberries. The early crop is ripe near the middle of June, and the late crop is ready from the middle of August until the first frost, about the middle of October.

Picking Tips:

Pick the darkest colored raspberries. They are the sweetest. The ripest raspberries should come off the cane easily. If you have to pull at a raspberry, it probably isn't ripe yet. Look underneath of the leaves. Many people just look at the tops of the canes, and leave many beautiful raspberries near the ground.

Storing Tips:

Since raspberries are so delicate, rinse them under a delicate stream of water. Store in a covered container in the refrigerator until ready to use.

Nutrition Facts:

There are only 64 calories in one cup of red raspberries. They are also a good source of dietary fiber and vitamin C.
