Sweet or Sugar Plums - Early July - Very sweet plum. Mostly for eating, but can be used for jam.
Italian Plums - End of August - Good eating freestone plum. Excellent for canning.

PICKING TIPS
Sweet Plums - Pick the firm, half-red to red plums. They will ripen more after they are picked. Do not pick completely green plums.
Italian Plums - Pick the firm, blue plums. They will ripen more after they are picked.

STORING TIPS
Keep the plums in a plastic bag or covered container in the refrigerator until ready to use. To ripen, set a plum on the counter for a day or two. Then it will be sweet and juicy.
